SEVEN PERSONS BEEF CLUB collecting food for community project

by Heather Heinrichs - Commentator/Courier (Nov 9/04)

The Seven Persons 4-H Beef Club is doing something a little different this year for their community project.  They are helping collect food for the Telus and Chat TV food bus for Christmas.

"We're trying to encourage people out in the country to be a part of the food drive," said Traxel.

"Nobody minds helping out the food bank and noby minds helping out the 4-H so when you put the two together you're bound to get a good response," said Traxel.

"The younger kids are really excited about it," said Traxel.

She said that part of the reason they wanted to do this project was to show the children what the food bank was really about.

"They are quite isolated in the farming community and they don't realize a lot of the stuff that goes on in Medicine Hat.  Just because you're short this paycheck for food doesn't mean that you are homeless.   It just means you might be going through a hard time."

The club has laready discussed the idea of volunteering to work at the Medicine Hat Food Bank just after Christmas when most people tend to start to forget that the food bank needs help all year round.

So far, the community has been very supportive of the project.

"We just started but the people I've talked to have been quite supportive," said Traxel.  But she admits that it probably would have gone smoother if they'd thought of the idea sooner.

"It's something that we maybe should have started planning earlier."

For anyone who wants to donate, there is a drop-off bin at the school and at Premium Sausage store and the 4-H beef club will be going door to door on the 13 and 14.

Once again, the Seven Persons 4-H Beef Club is back for another busy year.  We started off this year with our first meeting on Sept. 22 at the Seven Persons Community Hall, where a majority of our meetings are held.

In that meeting we got an idea of how many members we will have in our club this year.

We played games, which introduced us to new members and to get acquainted with each other.

We had our second meeting held on Oct. 13, which was our election night.

Our new President this year is Brianne Unreiner, Vice President is Travis Flannery, Secretary is Lisa Widmer, Vice Secretary is Nadine Kirschenman, our Treasurer is Keith Traxel and Past Treasurer is Justin Nagy.  Club Reporter is Colleen Krueger, Scrapbook is Taylor and Korissa Franz, Public Relations is Sage Watson and Tylene Rafa, our Parliamentarian is Kyle Knodel and our Junior Council Representatives are Kirby Lust, Kody Traxel and Nadine Kirschenman.

Our Club presently has 31 members, which is phenomenal.  Thank-you members for making this club grow and prosper!

Our firts weigh-in for this year is Nov. 7 at the Franz Farm at 1:00 pm.  Get ready for a busy day!
