Lions are especially dedicated to serving the blind and visually impaired, a commitment made after Helen Keller challenged our members to become her “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” during the 1925 convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. Our motto, “We Serve” perfectly exemplifies the dedication to helping those in need felt by Lions worldwide.
Services To Our Community
In 1996 The Lions Club of Medicine Hat undertook this project that affords a legacy that is still helping people with deaf and or blind disabilities today. In conjunction with: The Medicine Hat College; Lions Clubs international; the Multiple District; the club started this project under the direction of Lion Peter Tomyn. Some where in the neighborhood of $100,000.00 was raised and equipment bought for the program. In addition to that there is a legacy fund that supplies a scholarship for participants on a yearly basis.
Deaf Blind Intervener program at the Medicine Hat College
In 1952 the Lions took over a area of scrub land along the South Saskatchewan River. With hard work and determination they turned into a jewel of a park that all of the citizens in Medicine Hat can be proud of.
Lions Park
Every year the members of our club rise at 4:00 in the morning on July 1 and go down to Kin Coulee to cook breakfast for all of the citizens in Medicine Hat. This is our way of saying thank you to the people who support us thru out the year
Yearly Canada Day Breakfast
Each year the Lions in conjunction with the Police Point Interpretive Centre offer free hay rides, hot chocolate, and oranges for the public. Another way of the Lions saying thanks for your support.
